Local approach to radicalisation, extremism and terrorism

Extremist and terrorist violence are likely to occur in the Netherlands in the coming years. To protect national security and democratic rule of law, the Netherlands has adopted a robust and flexible approach to terrorism. A wide range of partners are committed to preventing extremist and terrorist violence.

These include the intelligence and security services, the police, investigative agencies, the justice chain, municipalities, local professionals and many others. Tackling radicalisation, extremism and terrorism locally is an essential part of this commitment.

Municipalities are responsible for supervising the local approach. This means they are in charge of developing the local approach and its implementation, in cooperation with the necessary partners.
